At this point we've given up on sending Wylie to a boarding and training program. They have been swamped with requests, adoptions are slow for dogs without issues let alone dogs with quirks, which means spots opening in The Pet Connection's program are hard to come by. Wylie is good in our indoor/outdoor kennel environment. We have zero issues with him. In a home environment Wylie can become aggressive. I think the constant human interaction is too much? He likes limited visits with breaks and his own space. He's friends with Sasha (the black Shepherd) but doesn't have to be placed with her. Wylie is about 4 years old now (as of June 2023). He's a tall lean boy. Husky/Shepherd/Malamute? They were breeding for dogs who resembled wolves. He fits that mold for sure. Wylie is good with most dogs at this point. Sasha rules him pretty firmly. He used be more of a bully, but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore. Wylie is part of our socially imperfect program. We made a commitment to him and we will honor that commitment. He needs a monthly sponsor to help cover his monthly preventatives and any other medical issues that come up as well as special treats. Just $50 a month and you can be this boy's sponsor. Story
Renegade came to us in 2015 as a 4-6 month old pup. She was on the urgent list at the Kansas City shelter: "***Rescue Only - Pup was brought to the shelter by animal control. It appears that she has had no previous human socialization and is very defensive when staff attempts to interact with her." Most ferals you work with will shut down, and curl up, and not really think about biting the thing scaring them. Renegade was different (hence her name). She will defend herself and will try to scare strangers away before they ever get near her. She eventually bonded to us and we could handle her and pet her and she'd curl up in a ball and allow the touching without defending herself. She'd wag her tail for us, and get excited to see us but then if you reached for her she'd run to her safe spot (an open wire crate) and curl up. With time, patience, and consistency she will now just cower down for petting, not run away. She WANTS the petting. She's so happy with us, dances around wagging her tail, gives us little kisses, loves treats, but when you reach for her she'll cower down and wait for the petting. The feral dog in her. With strangers, she acts like she's a guard dog and tries to scare them away...but with treats, time, and love she'll warm up to you. Renegade loves it here, she's safe here, but if a skilled, special person was interested in her...she is available for adoption. In the wrong home Renegade would bite someone. So we will be thorough in our screening of potential homes. Because of her trust/fear issues the potential adopter would need to come to our property to meet her 2-3 times a week for 3-6 weeks in a row to build a bond with her. Socially Imperfect...but still worth it. Renegade is a happy dog, who loves life, loves to play with other dogs, and deserves to live. She's a perfect example of why we do what we do. Just because she's not a 'normal' dog doesn't mean she doesn't deserve to live. Bessie and Hettie are bonded purebred Labrador Retrievers. We think they are sisters. They were found as strays nearly 2 years ago and are still looking for a forever home. These senior sisters are full of love towards all humans and can get along with dogs after they know the new dogs aren't going to hurt them. These girls have various health concerns, with their advanced age that's to be expected. We are guessing them to be 13ish years old. (As of June 2023). Bessie is the black girl, she's overweight and mellow. She had a couple benign tumors removed and is slow to get up at times. Probably no long staircases for her. She's just full of love though, melts into your touch and rolls over for belly rubs. Hettie is the chocolate girl and she's spry and no mobility issues for her. She does have some severe allergies. We've tried food trials, medications, and nothing has helped completely. It seems to be environmental and we have a bunch of fields, trees, etc around us. She's just as sweet as Bessie with humans and a bit more concerned of other dogs. These sisters need a home willing to give them love and inside comforts for what little bit of life they have left. They currently live in an indoor/outdoor run set up and I'm not sure if they are housebroken or even been a house pet before. Their adoption fee is covered....can you give them a home?

Updated Bio as of June 2023: Jupiter was originally found as a lost pup with her 2 brothers in a corn field during winter. She nearly froze to death, she was so cold she couldn't run/move quickly and people were able to catch her. They were all very thin and had to fight to survive with the coyotes out there. Jupiter is learning to trust humans and will be a happy dog around me but still skittish over touch. With new people she will take time to warm up for sure. Jupiter's adoption fee is sponsored. She is ok with other dogs but initially acts like she's aggressive. It's the survival mode in her. Once she knows they aren't going to hurt her she warms up. She will need to be fed separately from other animals.

Sasha came from a terrible hoarding situation. The lady liked to import German Shepherds from Germany and had a collection of black german shepherds. She wasn't able to care for them and they were neglected in training/socialization. Sasha needs some major training. If you haven't handled a working line German Shepherd she's probably not the one for you. She is intense. She's people friendly, wants to stay with you and stick by your side...but things that move can trigger her chase instinct and she is extremely bossy with dogs she likes and aggressive with dogs she doesn't like. She's never had rules/training. She's sweet with people, which is a blessing for sure. She's gorgeous and if someone spent time working with her she's going to be amazing. Are you the one for her? She's in Richmond, MO. Adoption fee is $200. She's probably 60-70 pounds and 2-3 years old.

If you're looking for that bully breed smile and cuddling personality then Sadie is your girl! She's all love and wiggles with humans and doesn't know a stranger. She is good with most other dogs, but can be over reactive to high arousal situations. Meaning no dog parks for this girl. She loves to play with toys and will throw the toy and chase it down herself. She loves her people and wants to be with you. She doesn't like cats and she's nervous in new situations.
