Wammes selected for Team Canada

Track cyclist Nick Wammes, whose Bothwell home is on the border with Dawn-Euphemia, was named to Team Canada for the Paris Olympic Games.

The 21-member cycling team includes mountain bike, BMX, road and track athletes.

Thanks to a strong season on the UCI Track Nations Cup circuit, Canada is one of only three countries to qualify in every track cycling event and is sending a full squad of 14 athletes.

Wammes is going to the Olympics for the second time after debuting at the 2021 Tokyo Games. He’s joined by Olympic newcomers Tyler Rorke and James Hedgco*ck after the trio won gold in the men’s team sprint at the 2023 Santiago Pan American Games and bronze at the UCI Track Nations Cup in Milton, Ont., this spring.

The six-foot Wynne helped Bradford District high school win the Simcoe County Athletic Association title and reach the OFSAA Windsor regional. He also plays for the Newmarket 18U Hawks.
