Keti Koti Festival
Every year on July 1, Amsterdam comes together to commemorate Keti Koti, a festival that celebrates the abolition of slavery. This poignant day marks the moment when the last enslaved people were freed in 1873—a history that, while seeming distant, is still strongly felt by many today. Yhe Keti Koti Festival is a time for collective remembrance of the past’s injustices and for celebrating freedom, equality, and unity. As we honor the experiences of those who suffered and acknowledge the lingering impacts of slavery, the festival also aims to broaden knowledge. Lastly, the program is also entertaining!
