Exterior
--------
This Miata's exterior is in good condition with no rust but it could use a trip to the body shop for minor repair and touch up. It's been garage kept for most of its life with us and the chassis has been inspected by a mechanic and is in great condition with no corrosion since we don't drive it in the winter months.
The rag top is original and while it is fading and has minor imperfections it does not leak when driving in rain. The passenger side can get inundated if left out in torrential rain and it's difficult to tell, but that's probably due to the drain on that side being partially obstructed.
The power mirrors are still functional, foldable, and in very good condition.
The rear window has a defroster for the days when its chillier.
The headlights are not completely transparent and have a frosted look because they were treated for yellowing and clear coated which didn't work as expected. The clear coat yellowed and had to be removed again. They could be replaced or polished if you don't like the way it looks. It does have clear working foglights and gorgeous tail lights which are as good as new.
Interior
--------
The interior which is black with leather seats, door trim and steering wheel is also in very good condition. There's a small tear in the leather on the drivers side seat bottom where a previous repair has come unglued and some stitching is coming undone in a seam adjacent to that. We use seat covers that lay over the affected area are much nicer to sit on when the weather gets hot.
The car didn't come from the dealership with the OEM floor mats but we have the mats that the dealer provided. The tab on the foldable wind screen between the headrests broke so it has been removed and set aside. There is no discernable difference with the wind and can be replaced but looks fine without it.
We installed a USB accessory that can be removed from the head unit as well as a Bluetooth accessory that plugs into the power outlet.
Another notable con with the interior is that the passenger side SRS sensor failed so we disconnected it. If you are safety conscious or just annoyed by the blinking light then you'll want to have it fixed but it is not the cheapest part to replace. Truth be told, the cause of the problem was most likely from parking it out in the soaking rain (with the top up) one season a while back.
It's a dirty secret with these cars, but the drain tube is known to get clogged and it did one year so we had to vacuum it out and clear the debris from the drain as best we could. Since then we have kept it nice and dry and don't go driving or leave it out in pouring rain. Since we promptly dealt with the issue there is no sign of water damage.
The car has lower mileage than 50% of others its age and mechanically it is in excellent condition. The only engine part we've ever had to replace was the alternator. The engine runs strong and performs the same as the day we purchased it in 2010. It's been well cared for and regularly serviced for its entire history with us. This car has many more miles to go and with a little TLC it could look as good as new.
